Sailing Games
Here are some of my favorite nautical-themed games. I do wish there were more that didn't revolve around
being a
pirate, but I understand the fixation. Piracy has been romanticized and does have a sense of adventure
and excitement to it.
- Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag My favorite Assassin's Creed game for obvious
reasons. It has some really fun nautical play sailing around and fighting other ships, taking forts,
and visiting ports. Ship upgrades are simple and I wish there was more emphasis on getting to know
and interacting with your crew, but it's still a really fun game and one of the best nautical gaming
experiences you could hope for.
- Sea of Thieves A fun modern game of
sailing and pirating, you can't go wrong with this one.
- Blackwake A hilarious naval FPS game where
you take a role on a ship and constantly die in all sorts of ways. Emphasis on cooperation with your
crew who are other players. Things can go really well with a good crew or horribly bad with a crew
that doesn't know how to communicate or get along.
- Puzzle Pirates A fun little browser
game that's just a bunch of puzzles you play to help your pirate sail around and stuff like that.
Light nautical-themed fun.
- Sid Meier's Pirates! An old classic.
- Monkey Island games Not much
emphasis on the actual sailing, but these are hilarious point & click adventure games about Guybrush
Threepwood (Mighty Pirate!) and his exploits. The first two are classics from the LucasArts Games
era, the others are great as well. If you've ever heard of insult swordfighting, this is where that
comes from. If you're familiar with these games, you probably recognize one of the Octum costumes...
Rias is obviously a fan, because there are a few references to these games hidden around COGG.
